Co-founder of Microsoft and one of the wealthiest persons on the planet, Bill Gates has stated in a recent interview that digital currencies have the potential to help the poor. He has noted that poor people do have assets but lack the means to insure themselves against risk and capitalize on their opportunities.

Gates has emphasized that there are two priorities for the future – making policy changes to ensure that the poor engage with the newer technology and creating a measurement system that tracks progress to make sure that people really benefit from financial activity.
